Sant Sebastià de la Guarda Historical Site

Around 2,600 years ago, humans sought to make use of this privileged spot from which we can enjoy spectacular views of the Costa Brava. At the top of Mount Sant Sebastià, a mountain with cliffs over the sea, we can go on a unique historical tour that takes us from the 5th century to today.

The Historical Site allows us to visit a small Iberian settlement of the Indigete tribe, which lasted from the 5th century to the 2nd century B.C. and a 15th century watchtower towering 165 metres over the sea. The tower served as a lookout for the coastal area to protect it from corsair and pirate invasions. The well-preserved tower includes an indoor exhibition and allows visitors to access the terrace.

We can also find an inn that forms part of a building created at the start of the 18th century built after the plague of 1650 due to a promise that the inhabitants of Palafrugell had made, and a hermitage from the same period, which was built to expand the worship and pilgrimage space. Finally, located on a cliff overlooking the sea, there is a lighthouse that started operating in 1857, the most powerful on the Catalan coast, with visibility of 32 nautical miles (approximately 60 kilometres).

The visit can be complemented with  A circular walk that showcases all the views offered by San Sebastián Mountain. Several viewpoints (Mirador de Llafranc, Mirador de la Hostería and Mirador de la Divina Pastora) allow visitors to enjoy one of the most privileged spots on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula.

During the visit

The Mount Sant Sebastià Visitors Centre features an information office and an exhibition space designed to provide cultural information about Mount Sant Sebastià. You can also discover the Route of the Overlooks through the Palafrugell mobile app.
