Cork Museum of Catalonia

In the centre of Palafrugell, the Cork Museum of Catalonia stands out as a unique institution that acquires, preserves, interprets and highlights the cultural heritage related to the world of cork in Catalonia.

The Museum is located in an old cork factory, which was the most important industrial sector in Spain. This building had an important past in the sector, as highlighted by some of the modernistic elements rarely seen in cork factories. These factories are typically functional buildings without decorative elements that were not built with the help of renowned architects. This aspect makes the site even more relevant, which stands out also for its size and structure.

The building was built between 1899 and 1900 and housed the company Miquel, Vincke & Meyer founded in 1900 by Joan Miquel Avellí, Heinrich Vincke Wischmeyer and Pau Meyer Unmack. The modernist style decoration on the main façade, created by the architect General Guitart Lostalo, stands out with remarkable metalwork on the iron door on carrer Pi i Margall.
