Can Mario Modernist Water Tower
Finished in 1905, the Modernist Water Tower is located within the old Can Mario cork factory. The tower is an authentic symbol of Palafrugell and its skyline, and a notable element of the Catalan industrial heritage due to its structure and artistic value.
An exhibition and multimedia presentation explain how this building boasts a unique modernist style that goes beyond its functionality. Water towers helped guarantee water pressure at a time when there was no running water.
This is also an exceptional work that has been categorized as a Cultural Asset of National Interest due to its decoration principally based on the spectacular metalwork along the railing that spirals upward around the central body up to the crown at the top. The elegant layout of the iron braces is also important as it makes the building slender, and it is an uncommon aspect in these types of buildings.
From the top of the 30-metre tower we can enjoy magnificent panoramic visits of Palafrugell and the Empordanet.
